DIRT QUAKE V 2016 The fun racing event with great results for Harley-Davidson

For the first time ever, Harley-Davidson®UK and Ireland cosponsored the increasingly popular annual Dirt Quake (15-16 th July) At the Adrian Flux Arena, Kings Lynn,Norfolk. Dirt Quake is a two-day dirt track racing event organised by Sideburn magazine. This was the fifth year of this dirt track spectacle that guarantees race action and fun for all the family.

As part of the action at Dirt Quake V, Harley-Davidson UK and Ireland fielded guest riders aboard a standard road-going Street 750 and a Dark Custom lightly-modified version, plus other great Harley machinery. Witness video action from the event here: Dirt Quake V

In the Friday evening’s Hooligan class, run by the Dirt Track Riders Association (DTRA), guest rider and former U.S.A. Speedway Team rider Ronnie Dean Correy, aka “Rocket Ronnie”, finished second overall. His steed for the night wasn’t a souped-up all-conquering Harley XR750 dirt track racer but a Street 750 with a smattering of Harley Dark Custom accessories. Rocket Ronnie’s team-mate for the night was another guest rider, Liam Marsden from MotorCycle News (MCN). This was Liam’s first time riding a road bike (standard Street 750) on shale. Saying that, he stayed in the saddle and rode himself proud. Read all about his exploits in MCN soon.

Saturday saw yet more exciting racing. In the Harley-Davidson class, another Harley-Davidson UK and Ireland guest rider, Dimitri Coste from France, set about the track on a Mert Lawwill Replica – a Sportster Forty-Eight derived dirt tracker built by Shaw Speed & Custom.

For the thousands of spectators it was an interesting spectacle – more so than the many competitors in fancy dress – to see a blouson jacket-wearing Frenchman riding flat-stick and sideways out of the turns. Dimitri Coste didn’t just look quick, he was seriously fast! The upshot being he won the Harley-Davidson class outright. In
second place was California dirt track specialist Chris Wiggins riding another Sportster.
